BBQ Fellowship and Bible Study Q&A

with Pastor Richard Iddings

We’re bringing a Bible study (the Book of John) to Smiths Ferry! First, we want to give folks the opportunity to get together in community fellowship—we’ve heard this was a common occurrence at the chapel in Smiths Ferry and we would like to help bring this fellowship back. Food is always a fantastic way to promote fellowship, so we’re hosting a BBQ—the only thing you need to bring is your appetite.

Second, this is a wonderful opportunity for the community to meet Pastor Richard and his family with CVB Church in Cascade—he’ll be the one leading the upcoming Bible Study. While the first half of the get together will be informal and provide all of us time to socialize and eat—during desert Pastor Richard will give opportunity for a public question/answer time.

All are welcome to attend the BBQ and/or the Bible Study. It would be helpful if you let us know you’re coming so we can be sure we have enough food! Simply complete the form to let us know.

May the Lord bless you and we look forward to meeting you.

Bible Study – Beyond the Sermon

with Pastor Richard Iddings

The Apostle John, under the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit, writes near the end of his account, “these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:31) At the heart of John’s Gospel record is to encourage the reader, build faith in our Lord, and give us a clear window to see and know Jesus. For these reasons alone, John makes a wonderful and engaging study.

Pastor Richard at CVB Church (Cascade) has recently started preaching a sermon series through John. Sermons often cover the broad strokes, the major themes, and the most direct applications—however, as you might imagine, God’s holy word contains other details, parallels, and interesting points deserving of further study and discussion.  This was the premise behind the Beyond the Sermon Bible study.  Beyond the Sermon allows us to dive deeper into a biblical text in a setting that encourages group discussion and questions.  The study begins with prayer, Pastor Richard revisiting the major points within the sermon, a brief discussion of peripheral points not shared in the sermon, going deeper into the text, and question/discussion is encouraged throughout the study.
